Minolta MD 28mm F2.8 Lens
Minolta MD Rokkor 28mm f2.8 (Serial 1065685)
This is an unusual MD Rokkor with a Celtic style barrel. These are known to have been produced for a short run by Minolta. Around 50,000 were produced. The internal design is somewhat different to the more conventional Minolta MD branded version of the lens.
This one exhibits an odd haze like effect which is not cleanable and may indeed be a result of its anti-reflection coatings presenting an unusual effect when torch tested.
The lens has been stripped and cleaned and re-lubricated to provide a good feel. Film testing has shown no ill effects from the supposed haze so we assume the lens to be as made.
Supplied with original Minolta end caps.
The Minolta MD mount was developed to suit the later X series cameras which could support both aperture priority and shutter priority modes. This lens will fit and work on any earlier type cameras which used the MC Mount.
Technically any Minolta film SLR uses the SR mount and the later MC and MD designations were only for the coupled metering systems. Some MD mount lenses have a locking tab to lock the lens at minimum aperture for point and shoot operation when used with an X-700 but this is not present on all MD lenses.
The MD series were the last manual focus lenses from Minolta and were some of the very best performing lenses due to their improved coatings.
Most MD lenses carry a read bead as their mount alignment and the beauty rings reads ‘Minolta MD’ this one reads as ‘Minolta MD W.Rokkor’ which suggests this model of the 28mm lens may have been an early version predating the main production batch. It is estimated around 50,000 of these were produced prior to the introduction of the later version.
Lens completely rebuilt to our usual high standard. Film tested and no issues found. Focus is smooth and fluid with a snappy aperture.
Please be aware that the cameras and lenses for sale can be up to 50 years old. They have been serviced and/or checked and are always as good as they can be made, but please don’t expect them to be flawless as if they were made yesterday.
All lenses of this age exhibit some small particles of dust and coatings are not up to modern standards. Cameras will exhibit some wear signs and likewise may have small dust specks in their viewfinders or focus screens. These do not affect the picture in any way.
ANY problems or issues will be described in the main text which you are advised to read carefully. If you are unfamiliar with film cameras we suggest you do some online research and read the manuals which are freely available from online resources.
We are enthusiastic film fans and spend our time hunting cameras and lenses that have been or are being unloved. We then spend hours to bring them back to fully working and clean condition, ready for a new lease of life with you We always change the film seals, give the camera a clean/service and make sure its fully working before we sell it on to you.
Most lenses are cleaned, re-lubricated and all of their functions checked prior to sale so you know they will work, full details will always be in the text. All items are packed safely for transit using proper packing material NOT something the cat was sick in. Having been stung both on eBay and by dealers alike who often know very little about film cameras we decided to offer people a chance to experience film using a camera that will last for many years and which we can say for sure works reliably
