Description
Olympus OM 50mm f1.8 Lens
Refurbished Olympus OM 50mm f1.8 Lens with lovely clear glass, smooth focusing and snappy, reactive aperture.
The lens has been completely rebuilt, many of these have a grinding focus feel due to the lubricants drying out – this one now has suitably firm but smooth focus operation.
Close to mint condition after refurbishment showing only light use.
Complete with non original but quality lens caps.
The Olympus 50mm f1.8 was in production through the entire life cycle of the original Olympus OM Series which ran from 1972 with the introduction of the OM-1 through to 2002. Over 30 years the lens design changed but always offered a very high quality and compact lens.
Measuring just 32mm and weighing in at a mere 165g (5.8 oz), the Olympus OM 50mm f1.8 standard lens is extremely compact (almost a pancake lens) and was the standard kit lens for most Olympus OM series cameras.
The optics provides edge to edge sharpness through the entire focal range. Closest focusing distance is 0.45m which makes it excellent for close-in work.
Small and compact the 50mm f1.8 makes a great general purpose lens.
This unit was in a neglected and unused state when we acquired it. Like many of these lenses the lubricants had dried out badly giving the focus a rough and grinding feel. Grease in the aperture stops had dried making aperture changes stiff and lacking in feel and the diaphragm had oil contamination leading to slow aperture blades. Many of these also suffer terminal fungus due to the encapsulated optical units – this sample had no fungus but its optics needed cleaning inside and out..
This lens has been completely stripped, cleaned and relubricated with Helimax XP which is designed for professional optical applications.
Optical surfaces cleaned appropriately and reassembled.
Infinity set correctly using an optical collimator and is now ready for a new lease of life.

Please be aware that the cameras and lenses for sale can be up to 50 years old. They have been serviced and/or checked and are always as good as they can be made, but please don’t expect them to be flawless as if they were made yesterday.
All lenses of this age exhibit some small particles of dust and coatings are not up to modern standards. Cameras will exhibit some wear signs and likewise may have small dust specks in their viewfinders or focus screens. These do not affect the picture in any way.
ANY problems or issues will be described in the main text which you are advised to read carefully. If you are unfamiliar with film cameras we suggest you do some online research and read the manuals which are freely available from online resources.
We are enthusiastic film fans and spend our time hunting cameras and lenses that have been or are being unloved. We then spend hours to bring them back to fully working and clean condition, ready for a new lease of life with you We always change the film seals, give the camera a clean/service and make sure its fully working before we sell it on to you.
Most lenses are cleaned, re-lubricated and all of their functions checked prior to sale so you know they will work, full details will always be in the text. All items are packed safely for transit using proper packing material NOT something the cat was sick in.Having been stung both on eBay and by dealers alike who often know very little about film cameras we decided to offer people a chance to experience film using a camera that will last for many years and which we can say for sure works reliably
