Fujica ST705W Film Camera with Lens
Fujica ST705W Film Camera with fully working meter, complete with the much sought after Fujinon 55mm f1.8 (serial 572766) and original case and lens cap which are also in good condition.
The Fujinon lens is the non-EBC version but can none the less deliver stunning performance. Many of these lenses are in poor shape due to Fujica using an aluminium to aluminium construction for the focusing helicoils resulting in many of these having seized focusing mechanisms. This one has been completely rebuilt to provide a smooth and light focus action. Aperture is snappy and oil free and the glass is as mint as any lens can be given its age.
Camera has been fully film tested with actual film and the results are shown in the gallery.
Camera is fully working and clean with new seals and mirror bumper but showing signs of age related wear and brassing.
Fully manual SLR first manufactured in 1977. The ‘W’ variant was introduced slightly later and allows for the use of an auto-winder. The only electronic part of the camera is its meter which uses centre weighted TTL metering and is powered by two commonly available SR44 batteries.
Lens mount is via an M42 thread but Fujica created a special adaptation which allowed Fujinon lenses to relay their aperture setting to the camera to allow for open aperture metering. Non Fujica lenses can be used but the camera will default to stopped down metering mode.
Shutter speeds from ‘B’ and then from 1 second through to 1000th in one stop increments plus an additional half stop maximum speed of 1,500th
Camera and lens cleaned throughout, camera wind mechanism lubricated with appropriate materials. Degraded light seal and mirror buffer removed and replaced with new high quality professional camera foam. Mirror, viewfinder and focus screen cleaned of debris and dirt and viewfinder now presents a clean and bright image. A few small specks are visible in keeping with the cameras age.
Metering system repaired and now fully operational.
Rewind shaft replaced as the original had cracked.
Lens was originally seized which is common with these due to their aluminium to aluminium helicoid design this has been completely stripped, cleaned throughout and reassembled with Helimax XP lubricant designed specifically for focus helicoids. The lens now exhibits a light and positive feel and focus is smooth through the entire range. Aperture is snappy and reactive. Glass exhibited haze from degraded factory lubricants this has fully cleaned and has been treated with anti fungal agents and given a UV bath to ensure long term fungal kill.
All external surfaces cleaned of accumulated dirt and logos cleaned and restored.
Shutter tested with Phocron XA Tester to ensure accuracy.
Please be aware that the cameras and lenses for sale can be up to 50 years old. They have been serviced and/or checked and are always as good as they can be made, but please don’t expect them to be flawless as if they were made yesterday.
All lenses of this age exhibit some small particles of dust and coatings are not up to modern standards. Cameras will exhibit some wear signs and likewise may have small dust specks in their viewfinders or focus screens. These do not affect the picture in any way.
ANY problems or issues will be described in the main text which you are advised to read carefully. If you are unfamiliar with film cameras we suggest you do some online research and read the manuals which are freely available from online resources.
We are enthusiastic film fans and spend our time hunting cameras and lenses that have been or are being unloved. We then spend hours to bring them back to fully working and clean condition, ready for a new lease of life with you We always change the film seals, give the camera a clean/service and make sure its fully working before we sell it on to you.
Most lenses are cleaned, re-lubricated and all of their functions checked prior to sale so you know they will work, full details will always be in the text. All items are packed safely for transit using proper packing material NOT something the cat was sick in.Having been stung both on eBay and by dealers alike who often know very little about film cameras we decided to offer people a chance to experience film using a camera that will last for many years and which we can say for sure works reliably
