Description
Pentax K1000 Camera with Lens
This is ‘Katie’ our own Made in Japan (MiJ) Pentax K1000 from the second production run. Its serial number indicates a production date between 1977 and 1982. Near mint condition with just a few minor cosmetic marks and a genuine two owners (including us) from new. Fully film tested and functionally perfect.
This is one of our own personal cameras and has been fully film tested. Cleaned throughout and absolutely perfect in all respects.
The camera is equipped with a superb clean ‘M’ series 50mm f1.2 lens (serial 4725020) which is clear and completely fungus free.
All functions work as if it were new from the box, fully working and accurate meter, silky focus action through range on lens with a sharp and fast aperture.
Mainly metal construction unlike the later Chinese made variants.
Viewfinder is clear and bright and features and features a microprism collar for focusing.
The camera has new light seals and mirror bumper but we have carried out no restoration work as it was near mint when we acquired it.
Supplied with a skylight filter to keep the lens pristine and original lens cap.
Fully manual SLR manufactured between 1976 and 1997. One of the longest production runs of any Japanese SLR and over 3 million of these were sold.
The K1000 was the entry level camera of the Pentax K Series and found a huge amount of favour with film photography students.
It is basic but very rugged, reliable hard wearing using an almost entirely all metal design. It is fully mechanical requiring standard SR44 batteries only to power its light meter. The light meter is light activated so it’s important to keep the camera cased when not in use otherwise it will slowly drain the batteries.
Production of the K1000 was moved to Hong Kong in 1978 and then to China in 1990.
‘Katie’ came to us almost mint and unused. She has been cleaned, given new light seals and mirror bumper and given a UV bath to retard any possible fungal growth. As she was in such perfect condition there seemed little value in any refurbishment beyond routine cleaning.
Please be aware that the cameras and lenses for sale can be up to 50 years old. They have been serviced and/or checked and are always as good as they can be made, but please don’t expect them to be flawless as if they were made yesterday.
All lenses of this age exhibit some small particles of dust and coatings are not up to modern standards. Cameras will exhibit some wear signs and likewise may have small dust specks in their viewfinders or focus screens. These do not affect the picture in any way.
ANY problems or issues will be described in the main text which you are advised to read carefully. If you are unfamiliar with film cameras we suggest you do some online research and read the manuals which are freely available from online resources.
We are enthusiastic film fans and spend our time hunting cameras and lenses that have been or are being unloved. We then spend hours to bring them back to fully working and clean condition, ready for a new lease of life with you We always change the film seals, give the camera a clean/service and make sure its fully working before we sell it on to you.
Most lenses are cleaned, re-lubricated and all of their functions checked prior to sale so you know they will work, full details will always be in the text. All items are packed safely for transit using proper packing material NOT something the cat was sick in.Having been stung both on eBay and by dealers alike who often know very little about film cameras we decided to offer people a chance to experience film using a camera that will last for many years and which we can say for sure works reliably
