Pentax KX 35mm Camera with 50mm f1.7 ‘M’ Series Lens

Pentax KX 35mm Camera – An excellent example of the relatively rare Pentax KX (serial 8356336) complete with its original ‘M’ series 50mm f1.7 lens (serial 6431049) and is fully film tested – the sample shots for more details.

Camera is used and showing some small wear marks but is in otherwise excellent condition and fully functional. The camera is one of our own cameras and was most recently used in Decemmber 2024 for a trip to Lanzarote.

The shutter and meter are 100% accurate and have been tested on our professional quality testing equipment. Viewfinder is clean and clear.

The camera is probably one of the best examples of Pentax cameras and is overall excellent with new seals and mirror bumper. The seals are the very high quality Jon Goodman types and will outlast any foam seals.

The lens has been cleaned and serviced and will be supplied complete with a good quality UV filter and the original Pentax lens cap. Optically and mechanically perfect.

We will include an original Pentax strap for the camera. The strap is in good condition but the rubber shoulder pad shows some wear and cracking from age.

The Pentax KX was sold for a relatively short time between 1975 and 1977 and was part of the ‘K’ series cameras which were the first to use the Pentax ‘K’ mount. The ‘K’ series comprised of the following cameras;

• K2 – Same feature set as the KX but with aperture priority Auto mode. The metering and auto mode on these is a weak spot given their age.
• KX – A full feature set including full information viewfinder with aperture readout plus suggested metered shutter speed, actual shutter speed with a microprism dot focus finder, Mirror lock up, self timer and depth of field preview. Metering via SPD cell which is faster and more reliable than the K1000 CDS cell.
• KM – Same spec as the K1000 but with a self timer and depth of field preview.
• K1000 – Lowest spec of the K series lacking all but the most basic features and using a CdS tyope meter cells for cheapness. The K1000 was pitched primarily at the student market place so it was designed to be cheap.

The KS is far superior to the K1000 and its build quality is superb throughout. In its day one of the premium semi-pro cameras.

Camera has had no servicing but has been tested both with test equipment and live film and operates perfectly. It has however been fitted with new light seals and mirror bumper of the Jon Goodman type 5 years ago and these will last a lifetime before requiring replacement.

The lens was fully serviced by us around 5 years ago and is optically and mechanically perfect

Please be aware that the cameras and lenses for sale can be up to 50 years old.  They have been serviced and/or checked and are always as good as they can be made, but please don’t expect them to be flawless as if they were made yesterday.

All lenses of this age exhibit some small particles of dust and coatings are not up to modern standards. Cameras will exhibit some wear signs and likewise may have small dust specks in their viewfinders or focus screens.  These do not affect the picture in any way.

ANY problems or issues will be described in the main text which you are advised to read carefully.If you are unfamiliar with film cameras we suggest you do some online research and read the manuals which are freely available from online resources.

We are enthusiastic film fans and spend our time hunting cameras and lenses that have been or are being unloved. Having been stung both on eBay and by dealers alike who often know very little about film cameras we decided to offer people a chance to experience film using a camera that will last for many years and which we can say for sure works reliably
