The guide has step by step instructions for servicing the camera and covers both cleaning, old foam removal and servicing of the shutter complete with authors notes explaining some of the operation and tips and tricks for repair. Containing 162 pages with hundreds of photographs including high resolution reference pictures and detailed descriptions covering all of the work required to service and CLA the Minolta XD including works not covered by other guides to the camera. This guide is an accompaniment to the well known Larry Lyells guide with improved photographs.

WARNING – The Minolta XD is a an extremely complex and fragile camera to work on and you are advised that you will need a fair degree of expertise to manage the CLA and servicing procedure. This is absolutely NOT a camera for the novice to work on. This guide does not include shutter tuning works as these are quite complex and the XD seldom needs tuning. Full instructions are given in the Minolta Servicing manual also available at learncamerarepair.com

You will require good quality JIS screwdrivers, suitable tools for micro work like tweezers and pliers, a lower powered (18W) soldering iron and ideally a calibrated light source and shutter tester capable of measuring curtain travel times to tune the camera. A full list of tools and materials required is covered in the guide.

Every effort has been made to make this guide simple and straightforward for the relative novice to camera repair and that includes using simplified terms for some items.  However, vintage cameras can be very challenging at times and you will often have to rely on your own ability to debug any issues that may arise.
